Coinbase Pushes Toward ‘Everything Exchange’ with Bitcoin Buy and Tokenized Assets

Coinbase exchange is among the firms accelerating the “Saylorization” trend, progressively growing its Bitcoin (BTC) stockpile. Amidst its push to become an everything exchange, the platform also forays into tokenized stocks.

However, users remain dissatisfied with the platform’s account freezes and suspensions, despite recent fixes.

Coinbase Expands Bitcoin Holdings and Launches Tokenized Stock Platform in the US

Coinbase revealed major strategic moves for the second half (H2) 2025, including a significant increase in its Bitcoin holdings and an ambitious push into tokenized real-world assets.

CEO Brian Armstrong said the exchange acquired an additional 2,509 BTC in the second quarter.

Based on data on Bitcoin Treasuries, this brings its total to 11,776 BTC with a cost basis of $740 million and a fair value of $1.26 billion.

The company’s ambitions extend far beyond Bitcoin. Coinbase announced it will soon launch tokenized stocks, prediction markets, and derivatives for US users. This marks its most aggressive move yet to build what it calls an “everything exchange.”

“All assets will inevitably move on-chain, so we want to have everything you want to trade in one place,” Armstrong wrote.

Speaking to a news site, Coinbase’s VP of Product Max Branzburg said the exchange was building the foundations for a faster, more accessible, and more global economy.

The move puts Coinbase in direct competition with platforms like Robinhood and Gemini Exchange. Notably, both of these platforms have already introduced tokenized equities abroad.

BeInCrypto recently reported that Robinhood’s tokenized stocks are stirring debate amid concerns that they present inadvertent competition for altcoins.

Meanwhile, Gemini launched its tokenized stocks in the EU, featuring equities such as MSTR.

However, Coinbase aims to lead in the US market as tokenization on the blockchain gains policy support under the Trump administration. Similarly, regulatory momentum is building through the SEC’s newly launched Project Crypto.

Coinbase’s upcoming offerings will roll out to US users first, followed by a jurisdiction-by-jurisdiction international expansion.

The roadmap includes tokenized stocks, real-world assets (RWAs), derivatives, and early-stage token sales, all accessible on-chain.

Coinbase’s Super App Vision Sparks Praise, But Censorship Concerns Abound

This expanded product suite aligns with Coinbase’s goal of becoming the top financial services app globally over the next decade.

Two weeks ago, Coinbase launched the Base App to integrate trading, messaging, and payments in one place. While some praise the vision, it raises concerns about control and censorship risks.

“Coinbase is building the chokepoint… Once everything’s on-chain, control shifts from banks to protocols. But only compliant wallets will be allowed. The new system won’t be free—it’ll be filtered,” wrote one user.

Despite these bold moves, Coinbase has also faced criticism over account access issues. BeInCrypto recently reported that many users remain locked out of their accounts. Complaints are mounting over slow customer support and unjustified restrictions.

However, Coinbase said it has taken major steps to fix the problem. A follow-up report confirmed the company had reduced account freezing incidents by 85% after overhauling its internal risk and compliance systems. Still, some users remain skeptical.

Coinbase’s ability to balance innovation with user trust will be critical as it races to become the go-to platform for crypto-native assets and tokenized traditional markets.

While its Bitcoin accumulation and RWA push signal strong conviction, the company must prove it can deliver a seamless and fair user experience. This is especially true as regulation, competition, and user expectations intensify.
